Sapanca villa guide
Sapanca is a four-season nature retreat in Sakarya, on the shore of the lake of the same name, about 1.5–2 hours from Istanbul; with villas featuring hot tubs, fireplaces and heated pools, it is a popular choice for couples, families and visitors from the Gulf countries looking for a weekend getaway.
The nearest airport is Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen (SAW), about 100 km or between 1 hour 15 minutes and 1.5 hours by car. From Istanbul Airport (IST) the journey takes about 2–2.5 hours depending on traffic. The lakeshore has walking paths and picnic areas. The riverside restaurants of Maşukiye, the Kartepe ski resort and the lakeside cafés of Kırkpınar are the highlights of the surrounding area.
A holiday in Sapanca is not limited to summer: in winter, fireplaces and indoor or heated pools take centre stage, in autumn the forests change colour, and in summer the evenings stay cool. Demand is high at weekends and on public holidays, so booking early for these dates is a good idea. Most villas are detached houses with gardens, set in nature.
When choosing a villa in Sapanca, set your priorities for lake views, pool type and heating: outdoor pools may not be usable in winter, so filter for villas with an indoor or heated pool. If you are bringing a pet, look for "pet-friendly" listings, and check the Ministry of Culture and Tourism permit number on every listing.
