Dalyan villa guide
Dalyan is a peaceful town in the Ortaca district of Muğla, set on the channel that links Lake Köyceğiz to the sea; with garden pool villas among the reeds, the Kaunian King's Tombs carved into the cliffs and İztuzu Beach, where loggerhead turtles nest, it is ideal for nature-loving families and couples.
Dalaman Airport (DLM) is about 25 km from Dalyan, roughly 30 minutes by car. River boats leaving from town take you to the ancient city of Kaunos, the mud baths, the Sultaniye hot springs and İztuzu Beach, which is about 4.5 km long. İztuzu is an important nesting site for loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta), and during the nesting season the beach is closed to visitors at night.
Dalyan's villas are usually one or two storeys, with large gardens and private pools; many sit on the riverbank or among citrus and pomegranate orchards. The season runs from April to late October; summers can be hot and humid, so spring and autumn are more comfortable for sightseeing. Göcek is about 45 minutes by car and Fethiye about 1 hour.
When choosing a villa in Dalyan, look at the distance to the centre: from villas in town you can walk to restaurants and the boat jetty, while countryside villas are quieter but require a car. For villas close to the reeds, it is worth asking the host whether the windows have insect screens. Check the Ministry of Culture and Tourism permit number on every listing.
